Rotary Club of Mystic Launches Community Peace Garden to Honor the Carters' Legacy
The Rotary Club of Mystic is proud to announce an inspiring new initiative: the creation of a Community Peace Garden dedicated to celebrating the enduring legacy of President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter. This garden will serve as a living tribute to their remarkable contributions to peacebuilding, public service, and global health—values that resonate deeply with Rotarians around the world.
Scheduled for implementation during the 2025/2026 Rotary year, the garden will be developed with the support of a District Managed Grant, showcasing the collective efforts of clubs across District 7980. This initiative has already garnered strong backing from the Town of Groton, and the Rotary Club of Mystic is now working to secure a formal invitation to the Carter Center, in hopes of bringing their leadership into the project.
In line with Rotary’s commitment to peacebuilding, the Peace Garden will not only honor the Carters’ achievements but will also provide a serene space for reflection, education, and community engagement. Clubs across the district are encouraged to get involved in any way they can—whether through volunteer work, fundraising, offering design ideas, or simply lending their name in support.
“The creation of this Peace Garden is a chance for us to come together as a district and embody the values of peace, service, and collaboration that define Rotary,” said a representative from the Rotary Club of Mystic. “It’s a meaningful way to commemorate the Carters’ lifelong commitment to improving lives and fostering understanding.”
This collaborative project offers a unique opportunity for Rotarians to engage with their local communities while contributing to a global movement of peace and service. The Rotary Club of Mystic invites all clubs within District 7980 to join in this effort, ensuring that the Peace Garden will stand as a lasting symbol of Rotary’s Peacebuilding Area of Focus.
Let’s unite to create something lasting, impactful, and reflective of the values we hold dear. Together, we can build a legacy of peace that honors the Carters’ remarkable journey and continues to inspire future generations.
