Bridgeport Rotary Partners with Local School to Provide Uniforms

Bridgeport Rotary and Bridgeport Public Schools Partner to Support Families Displaced by Fires

Bridgeport, CT, January 3, 2025 – A devastating fire struck on the evening of Tuesday, December 24, 2024—just as families were preparing to celebrate the holidays—displacing two families with six students within the Bridgeport Public Schools community. The tragedy overshadowed what should have been a season of joy, leaving these families in urgent need of support. Though the holidays have passed, Bridgeport Rotary, in partnership with Bridgeport Public Schools, remains committed to helping the affected families recover, demonstrating that the strength and kindness within our community extends far beyond the festive season.

As part of this collaboration, Bridgeport Rotary donated gift cards for each of the six displaced students. These funds will allow the students to purchase new uniforms, helping them return to school prepared and confident. Acting Superintendent Dr. Royce Avery personally delivered the gift cards to the families, demonstrating the district’s dedication to supporting its students.

In the coming months, Bridgeport Rotary plans to adopt several schools within the district and establish a “Uniform Closet” program. This initiative will provide families with consistent access to uniforms and essential school supplies, ensuring that all students have what they need to succeed.
